About the position

This position manages the documentation excellence program for designated service lines at Ochsner Health, focusing on hospital and professional coding, diagnostic imaging, and documentation quality. The role involves planning and organizing operational functions, including staffing, data analysis, budgeting, and regulatory compliance, while collaborating with departmental management teams on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, supervises, and mentors staff to ensure adherence to departmental standards of performance.
  • Manages the daily operations of the department.
  • Provides ongoing performance feedback and conducts performance evaluations to staff.
  • Establishes and coordinates department quality improvement processes through internal audits.
  • Manages monthly financial statements for fluctuations in variable expenses and staffing ratios.
  • Implements special projects and growth plans efficiently and timely.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in health information management or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in healthcare management or related field.
  • Current registered nurse license in the state of practice (preferred).
  • Current Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification (preferred).
  • Current Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS), Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification (preferred).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role.
