About the position

The Manager, Embedded Software R&D at Johnson & Johnson MedTech is responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the development and management of embedded software for Class I-III medical devices. This role involves overseeing the entire software development process, including design, implementation, verification, and risk management, while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The manager will also focus on team development, mentoring, and fostering a culture of professionalism and ethics within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a team of software engineers in embedded software development.
• Oversee detailed design, implementation, verification, and risk management of medical devices.
• Develop and manage the software development process and necessary tools.
• Set clear expectations for direct reports and establish roles and responsibilities.
• Serve as a technical and leadership mentor to the engineering team.
• Create design development plans and coach teams to execute effectively.
• Hire, develop, mentor, and train engineering talent.
• Support compliance program-related initiatives and activities.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent required.
• Master's Degree in business or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded software development.
• Minimum of 5 years of engineering people management experience.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering management within an Agile environment.
• Familiarity with software development tools/platforms/languages such as JIRA, GIT, QNX, Embedded Linux, Modern C++, and Qt.
• Experience with requirements management and application/product lifecycle management tools.
