About the position

The Manager, Embedded Software R&D at Johnson & Johnson MedTech is responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the design, implementation, and verification of embedded software for Class I-III medical devices. This role involves managing the software development process, mentoring technical staff, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The position is based in Cincinnati, OH, and focuses on delivering innovative healthcare solutions through collaboration and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a team of software engineers in the development of embedded software for medical devices.
  • Oversee detailed design, implementation, verification, and risk management of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Develop and manage the software development process and necessary tools.
  • Set clear expectations for direct reports and establish roles and responsibilities.
  • Serve as a technical and leadership mentor to the engineering team.
  • Create design development plans and coach teams to execute effectively.
  • Hire, develop, mentor, and train engineering talent.
  • Foster professionalism, ethics, and compliance within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded software development.
  • At least 5 years of experience in engineering people management.
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering management within an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with software development tools such as JIRA, GIT, QNX, Embedded Linux, and Modern C++.
  • Experience with requirements management and product lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for software release processes.
  • Experience with Medical Device Software and IEC 62304 standard.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business or a related field.
  • Familiarity with UML/Visual software development tools.
  • Demonstrated success in the design and commercialization of Class I-III medical devices.
  • Experience in managing external software development partners.
