About the position

The Engineering Manager for the Global Data Analytics and Engineering (GDAE) team at Liberty Mutual will lead data engineering squads focused on delivering customer-centric data solutions within the US Retail Markets (USRM) Claims business. This role emphasizes servant leadership, Agile methodologies, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive business value through modern data platforms and tools. The manager will oversee the development and maintenance of data products, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage four Agile data engineering squads focused on delivering data solutions for the USRM Claims business.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with team members and business partners, including Product Owners.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to empower Data Engineers, Analysts, and Scrum Masters.
• Extend and scale Agile practices by partnering with coaches and team members to improve team dynamics and delivery.
• Support teams by removing risks, issues, and impediments to overall delivery.
• Partner with peer leaders to strengthen the organization as a best place to work and talent destination.
• Manage partner delivery excellence for staff augment/contractor vendors, including performance and capacity planning.
• Develop and grow industry and technology expertise related to agency, strategic partnerships, and finance.
• Participate in the development of business and IT vision, strategies, and operating plans for data solutions.
• Advocate for technical investment features to maintain existing data assets while developing new capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a technical or business discipline; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years in a leadership role with experience leading teams.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing data platforms and tools.
• Strong team building, change management, and people management skills in a matrixed organization.
• Experience with data warehousing, data lake, analytics, and reporting technologies such as AWS/Cloud, Snowflake, and Informatica.
• Knowledge of Agile engineering practices and tools like Jira and Slack.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and management skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience leading multiple teams in a high-paced Agile data delivery environment.
• Understanding of Personal Lines Claims business and data.
• Experience with re-platforming or modernization efforts in data development.
