About the position

The Global Data Analytics and Engineering (GDAE) team at Liberty Mutual is seeking a data engineering leader to drive results through dynamic teams in a servant leadership environment. This Engineering Manager role involves leading Agile data engineering squads focused on delivering customer-centric data solutions for the US Retail Markets (USRM) Claims business, particularly in Personal Lines. The position emphasizes collaboration with cross-department teams and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions provide business value and support a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage four Agile data engineering squads focused on delivering data solutions for the USRM Claims business.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with team members and business partners, including Product Owners.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to empower Data Engineers, Analysts, and Scrum Masters through servant leadership.
  • Extend and scale Agile practices by partnering with coaches and team members to improve team dynamics and delivery.
  • Remove risks, issues, and impediments to ensure overall delivery success.
  • Partner with peer leaders to strengthen the organization as a best place to work and talent destination.
  • Manage partner delivery excellence for staff augment/contractor vendors, ensuring accurate performance tracking and capacity planning.
  • Develop and grow industry and technology expertise related to agency, strategic partnerships, and finance.
  • Participate in the development of business and IT vision, strategies, and operating plans for applications or portfolios.
  • Advocate for technical investments to maintain existing data assets while developing new capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a technical or business discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years in a leadership role with experience leading teams directly or indirectly.
  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience developing data platforms and tools, and depth in data management technologies.
  • Strong team building, change management, and people management skills in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience with data warehousing, data lake, analytics, and reporting technologies such as AWS/Cloud, Snowflake, and Informatica.
  • Knowledge of agile engineering practices and development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira, Slack).
  • Excellent analytical, consultative, communication, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading multiple teams in a high-paced Agile data delivery environment.
  • Understanding of Personal Lines Claims business, application, or data.
  • Experience leading development teams through re-platform or modernization efforts.
