About the position

The Manager, Engineering (Data and AI Architecture) at FedEx Dataworks is responsible for leading the architecture and implementation of the organization's data and AI strategy. This role involves collaborating with executive leadership and various stakeholders to ensure that data and AI initiatives enhance FedEx's supply chain operations. The position requires a strong background in data architecture, AI technologies, and both cloud-native and legacy systems, with a focus on driving innovation and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement optimal data and AI architecture using open-source and commercial tools.
• Drive modernization of platform, data, and application architectures, transitioning legacy systems to cloud-native solutions.
• Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of data and AI infrastructure.
• Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for senior leadership.
• Stay updated on the latest data and AI technologies and best practices.
• Lead and mentor a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineering professionals.
• Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the data and AI team.
• Evaluate and select appropriate data and AI technologies and platforms.
• Manage relationships with technology partners and vendors.
• Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering.
• Seven (7) years of equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development, and/or predictive analytics.
• Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks, including design, development, and implementation of complex systems and data pipelines.
• Strong understanding of the transportation industry and evolving technologies.
• Experience providing leadership in a planning or consulting setting.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Azure services, Databricks, and various database technologies.
• Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
• Experience with DevOps practices in data pipelines.
