About the position

The Manager of Engineering Major Underground Padmount at CenterPoint Energy is responsible for directing engineering and technical personnel to complete various assignments, ensuring system reliability, controlling costs through effective system design, and identifying cost efficiencies through innovation and technology. This role involves compliance with governmental and environmental regulations, management oversight of projects, and development of engineering staff to ensure job competency and succession planning.

Responsibilities

  • Direct engineering and technical personnel to complete various engineering assignments.
  • Achieve system reliability and control costs through effective system design.
  • Identify cost efficiencies through innovation and technology.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable governmental and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Analyze budget performance and develop recommendations for actions.
  • Develop forecasts, project development plans, and resource requirements for future projects.
  • Provide cost-effective designs for system expansion to comply with design standards.
  • Use interpersonal and motivational skills to guide others towards accomplishing division goals.
  • Explore alternative methods and new technologies for cost efficiencies and improved designs.
  • Coordinate work performed by other divisions across functional boundaries.
  • Act as a change agent in adopting better methods and gaining employee investment.
  • Develop engineering staff to ensure job competency and staff growth.
  • Specify and approve the procurement of major equipment for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
  • Professional Engineering license in the state of Texas required.
  • Minimum of 6 years electric utility or engineering experience.
  • Prefer previous leadership experience either formal or informal.
