About the position

The Engineering Solutions Operations Manager for the Electric Service Modernization Plan (ESMP) and Underground Cable Modernization Plan (UCMP) programs is responsible for overseeing the engineering design process from initial concepts through to construction support. This role serves as the primary technical contact for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with engineering standards. The position also involves strategic planning and execution of complex projects, leading cross-functional teams, and managing resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead point of Engineering technical contact with internal and external groups.
  • Progress Engineering Design from order of magnitude through IFC and construction support.
  • Serve as Engineering Project Manager on assigned complex or high-risk projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed within established schedules and budgets.
  • Provide leadership and direction for effective planning and organization of resources.
  • Define work and mutual commitments with other departments through direct and matrix engineering resources.
  • Create Engineering designs to meet project needs and satisfy technical requirements.
  • Exhibit leadership and management skills to lead cross-functional groups effectively.
  • Ensure multidisciplinary information is included in engineering development and deliverables.
  • Select and oversee development of Engineering staff and supporting staff.
  • Provide technical support for substations and transmission line development projects.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of material, construction, operational considerations, and design standards.
  • Collaborate with other managers on life cycle, risk analysis, and reliability reporting.
  • Define project tasks and allocate them among project team members.
  • Create and implement strategies for risk assessment and mitigation across projects.
  • Oversee management and development of area staff and establish performance objectives.
  • Analyze and recommend resource levels for program development and implementation.
  • Act as design authority for engineering deliverables in all applicable disciplines.
  • Provide technical support to commissioning and startup activities.
  • Lead creation of new processes, tools, and techniques for design-related work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience, including managerial experience or a combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leadership of performance improvement efforts.
  • Thorough knowledge of substation design engineering and electric systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and project management.
  • Experience managing operating budgets and operating plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License in the Commonwealth of MA or State of CT or NH preferred.
