About the position

The Manager of Enterprise Data Science at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for leading a team of data scientists to analyze complex and unstructured data sets using advanced statistical methods. This role focuses on providing data-driven insights to support decision-making across multiple service lines, ensuring high-quality care and operational efficiency. The manager will oversee the development and maintenance of data models and algorithms, while also mentoring team members and promoting professional growth within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team that develops custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  • Lead a team that maintains existing models and evaluates their goodness of fit.
  • Develop and apply algorithms or models to key business metrics to improve operations or answer business questions.
  • Provide findings and analysis for decision-making.
  • Lead complex issues and problems, referring more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
  • Provide technical supervision and mentoring to other data scientists and train a broader audience on data science developments.
  • Generate recommendations for plans, programs, strategies, policies, and budgets.
  • Drive data quality throughout the organization.
  • Manage teams to identify, understand, and resolve data issues and improve efficiency, productivity, and scalability of data processes.
  • Lead the evaluation of data science vendors and tools.
  • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting education and skills competency requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in science, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related STEM field required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Five years of experience in data science required.
  • Two years of demonstrated leadership skills required.
  • Professional experience in a hospital setting or healthcare data management preferred.
  • Ability to build the roadmap/vision and execute for the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning techniques and their real-world applications.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and experience with applications.
  • Proficient programming skills and experience with statistical analysis tools.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in identifying and seeking needed information for analysis.
  • Advanced understanding of SQL database management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical informatics or healthcare information technology.
  • Knowledge of data science methods such as time series forecasting, linear regression, A/B testing, and clustering.
