About the position

The Manager - Environmental Programs at Delta Air Lines is responsible for leading the Environmental Programs team, which establishes policies and frameworks for various environmental media areas, including waste management, air quality, and remediation. This role involves providing strategic direction, managing environmental professionals, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The manager will work closely with internal teams and external consultants to drive continuous improvement in environmental practices across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic development of effective policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives for environmental programs.
  • Utilize Delta's environmental management system to support operating divisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Engage and oversee environmental consultants to assist in program execution and reduce environmental risks.
  • Provide technical and compliance expertise to various departments regarding environmental regulations and projects.
  • Advise managers on environmental compliance standards and best practices.
  • Report and resolve compliance violations with regulatory agencies in coordination with legal and government affairs teams.
  • Leverage data to track environmental program performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor federal and state rulemaking activities and support implementation in Delta's operations.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to Environmental Program Managers and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences/Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in managing media-based environmental compliance programs, specifically hazardous waste management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate internal and external factors with strategic thinking in decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to execute high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with employees and external agencies.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard computer functions such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability for overnight travel up to 20% for station visits and project oversight.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in the commercial aviation industry.
  • Experience with environmental management systems and information systems, such as Intelex and ACTs.
  • Experience with environmental auditing and assurance programs.
  • PE, REM, CHMM certifications.
