About the position

The Manager of Environmental Programs at Royal Caribbean Group is responsible for overseeing environmental initiatives related to the development of private land-based destinations. This role involves managing environmental programs throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with environmental policies, and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders. The position requires a strong background in environmental stewardship, particularly in complex land development projects, and involves significant coordination with construction contractors and government agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the environmental programs for Private Destination development throughout the land development lifecycle.
  • Support the creation, editing, and maintenance of the environmental strategy principles and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with RCG's environmental policies and relevant regulations for all projects.
  • Incorporate environmental policies into the design of new projects and expansions.
  • Provide guidance and expertise throughout the lifecycle of projects, including site selection, design, construction, and operations.
  • Manage relationships with environmental partners, including internal and external stakeholders.
  • Directly manage environmental monitoring consultants for private destination projects.
  • Conduct environmental compliance audits and develop corrective action programs.
  • Stay updated on emerging environmental trends and technologies.
  • Develop environmental awareness programs for guests and employees.
  • Evaluate new project sites to minimize environmental impact and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Monitor environmental programs for compliance and review periodic reports.
  • Provide training resources and guidance for internal environmental stewards and team members.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and recommend actions to prevent nonconformities.
  • Establish positive working relationships with environmental groups to promote RCG's standards.
  • Keep environmental documents and programs up to date and produce quarterly presentations.
  • Implement and coordinate financial activities, including budget tracking and recommendations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of environmental experience, preferably within tourism and/or international contexts.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, or a closely related field; MBA preferred.
  • Previous experience in environmental principles and practices in complex land-based development.
  • Solid understanding of environmental principles around wastewater, energy, and construction.
  • Extensive knowledge of international and US environmental rules and regulations.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to develop and organize tactical plans utilizing project management principles.
  • Effective communication skills to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Ability to apply RCCL environmental policies and practices effectively.
  • Experience in managing and motivating staff, including hiring high-performing employees.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental impact assessments and management plans.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring during construction and operation.
