About the position

The Manager, Field Applications Scientist (FAS) at PacBio is responsible for leading a team that supports the installation, training, validation, and implementation of PacBio's advanced sequencing technology. This role requires strong customer focus and effective communication with various stakeholders, including customers, marketing, and internal support teams. The position is based on the East Coast of the United States and involves significant interaction with customers and scientific presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and motivation to the PacBio FAS team as part of the AMR Management team.
  • Responsible for staffing and performance management activities, including setting department objectives and completing employee evaluations.
  • Assist customers in designing and conducting experiments using the Sequel & Sequel II instruments.
  • Support Technical sales in driving the adoption and use of PacBio products and applications.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Support team to provide timely assistance for customer inquiries.
  • Work with Account Managers to identify business opportunities and understand customer research needs.
  • Assist Sales and Marketing teams in conducting scientific presentations.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and key opinion leaders in the assigned territory.
  • Problem-solve and overcome technical challenges in the field.
  • Integrate internal and field-based activities to support customer requirements.
  • Assist in developing technical documentation and training presentations.
  • Participate in cross-functional steering committees for new product initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology/Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in field applications and pre-/post-sales customer support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting scientific presentations for pre- and post-sales activities.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with field team members.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a remote field team handling installation, training, validation, and implementation of next-generation DNA sequencing instruments.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology/molecular genetics and biochemistry laboratory techniques.
  • Experience analyzing next-generation DNA sequencing data.
  • Knowledge of tools supporting next-generation DNA sequencing, including common DNA sequence analysis tools.
