About the position

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is seeking a Transaction Advisory Group Manager in Finance and Business Operations to join our dynamic team. Our Global Transaction Advisory Group (TAG) is the largest transaction advisory practice outside the Big 4 audit firms, comprising over 450 professionals across various regions including the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific. In this role, you will assist the CFO in preparing the annual budget and mid-year forecasts, collaborating with the Corporate team to understand non-discretionary budget items. You will be responsible for creating monthly financial reports, analyzing variances, and delivering consolidated reports in a timely manner. Your analytical skills will be crucial in identifying drivers of results and suggesting creative solutions to enhance performance. Additionally, you will support the CFO with the annual year-end compensation process and assist the finance operations team in transitioning existing databases and Excel-based reporting to more efficient and automated tools. You will also play a key role in identifying financial and operational KPIs, developing dashboards to drive accountability for performance, and collecting, analyzing, and presenting a wide array of company-level information to senior leadership and key stakeholders. Monitoring client billing accuracy, collections of receivables, and supporting year-end collection activities will be part of your responsibilities, along with conducting ad-hoc reporting and in-depth reviews such as project profitability assessments. Building effective working relationships with key stakeholders in both finance and operations will be essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist CFO in preparing annual budget and mid-year forecasts, while working with Corporate team to understand non-discretionary budget items.
  • Create monthly financial reports, gathering explanations for variances and delivering consolidated reports on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Identify drivers of results and suggest creative solutions to improve performance.
  • Support CFO with annual year-end compensation process.
  • Assist finance operations team with conversion of existing databases and excel-based reporting to more efficient and automated tools.
  • Identify financial and operational KPIs and develop dashboards to drive accountability for performance throughout the firm.
  • Collect, analyze, and present a wide array of company-level information for various audiences including senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Track financial/cashflow progress and near-term expectations on group, Managing Director and engagement level.
  • Review, analyze and report local and national overhead spend vs budget and prior year while coordinating with various function leads to understand current state and revise forecasts.
  • Develop checks and balances to ensure activities are being conducted in line with expectations.
  • Monitor accuracy and timeliness of client billing, collections of receivables, and support year-end collection activities.
  • Conduct ad-hoc reporting and in-depth reviews (e.g. project profitability reviews).
  • Work with client teams on special projects and ad hoc reporting needs.
  • Continuously work to improve financial reporting and processes.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including those in the finance organization as well as the business unit (both client service and operations professionals).
  • Coordinate leadership meeting support material and ensure accuracy.
  • Support the organization and meeting material creation for team meetings and off-sites.

Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
  • 6+ years of relevant business experience in Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Operations or similar area.
  • Strong financial competency overall is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Initiative and sound judgment to make appropriate and timely decisions.
  • Ability to understand and articulate financial impact of business decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel; PowerBI knowledge a plus.
  • Positive attitude and capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and changing environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
