About the position

The Manager - Finance position at American Express involves leading financial decision-making processes to optimize a $3B investment budget aimed at driving growth across the US Consumer portfolio. The role requires strong analytical skills, strategic thought leadership, and effective communication to collaborate with various stakeholders and senior leaders. The candidate will be responsible for providing insights into investment optimization, managing projects, and supporting financial forecasting processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide insights into investment optimization and decisioning, including driving investment efficiencies across Prospect and Customer marketing channels.
• Independently lead projects by conducting analyses on business cases, past portfolio performances, assessing channel profitability, product refreshes, as well as various other ad hoc decision support needs.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Product teams on investment management ranging from day-to-day campaign management/funding decisions, related partner negotiations, and budget allocations to ensure volumes at scale are achieved through the most efficient means.
• Liaise and collaborate with Controllership and Marketing to understand overall P&L impacts as well as help support official Forecasting processes.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated excellent strategic thought leadership skills and creativity, as well as strong financial and analytical skills
• Solid understanding of financial statements, discounted equity cash flow valuation and card economics
• Ability to create and maintain financial and economic models
• Highly motivated individual with desire to work on ambiguous projects and the ability to break down complex ideas into understandable and actionable messages
• Ability to build relationships with business partners by influencing decisions with sound logic and analytics.

Nice-to-haves

• Ease with complex data sets, including advanced excel, programming and visualization knowledge a plus (TM1, SQL, Python, Tableau or Power BI preferred)
