About the position

The Manager of Financial Reporting and Accounting at Corewell Health is responsible for overseeing internal and external financial reporting, accounting, and audit activities for the organization and its subsidiaries. This role involves managing a significant fixed asset portfolio, ensuring accurate financial information is communicated to decision-makers, and leading a team of financial analysts and accountants. The position requires maintaining strong internal controls and ensuring compliance with accounting principles while providing analytical support to enhance financial reporting and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial statement production and general ledger maintenance processes.
  • Coordinate activities across the organization to ensure efficient and accurate generation of monthly financial results.
  • Oversee the tracking and maintenance of a $4.2 billion fixed asset portfolio.
  • Prepare monthly analysis of financial statements and make recommendations to leadership based on findings.
  • Assist with activities of independent auditors and ensure timely and accurate information requests.
  • Work with finance leadership to achieve department goals and complete corporate projects.
  • Stay informed of changes to GAAP, Statutory Accounting Principles, and State of Michigan accounting policies, communicating effects to senior management.
  • Consult with operations management on accounting and finance-related matters.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide information for tax, surveys, and regulatory filings.
  • Work with Core Finance Systems team to ensure financial systems and upgrades are properly supported.
  • Manage the activities of professional and support employees engaged in financial reporting, providing training and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, business, healthcare administration, or related field.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a finance or accounting role with a focus on financial reporting, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of relevant supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in public accounting.
  • Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State of Michigan.
