About the position

The Manager - Fleet Operations at Hirschbach Motor Lines is responsible for training and developing Driver Leaders, providing first-level support, and overseeing a fleet of drivers to maximize productivity, utilization, and retention. This role involves tracking performance metrics, managing communication with drivers, and ensuring compliance with company policies while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Train and develop new and current Driver Leaders.
  • Provide first-level support to the Driver Leader team.
  • Track add pay within the fleet.
  • Monitor Driver Leader phone statistics.
  • Process term notifications and assist in retention efforts of current drivers.
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with Driver Leaders to discuss KPIs.
  • Identify drivers 'at risk' due to low pay or equipment issues.
  • Achieve Best in Class retention percentage and manage turnover behavior.
  • Maintain and oversee an assigned fleet of drivers to maximize productivity and retention.
  • Communicate with drivers and promptly respond to calls, emails, and messages.
  • Send preplans to drivers and secure load commitments in a timely manner.
  • Complete loaded and empty calls and track operators' performance from dispatch to delivery.
  • Manage operator availability and update drivers' PTA accurately.
  • Optimize performance of assigned drivers, including on-time pickup and delivery performance and HOS compliance.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with operators and operations team members.
  • Coach drivers to identify opportunities for improvement and provide necessary training.
  • Collaborate with the Safety department to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Identify issues with operator settlements or pay and work with Driver Payroll.
  • Attend meetings related to Hirschbach operators and travel to terminal locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of transportation experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain or a related field preferred.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to navigate multiple programs.
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy and energy.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and a strong desire to learn.
