About the position

Danner's Inc., a long-standing Maritime Transportation and Security company, is seeking a Freight Manager to join our team in Pasadena, TX. This role is pivotal in managing the staff and operations of the Freight Department and overseeing freight logistics throughout the company. The Freight Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all operations align with the company's goals and objectives, while also maintaining a high level of customer service. The Freight Manager will effectively manage a team of 15 personnel who conduct continuous operations in a dynamic environment, seven days a week. This includes managing the training and development of all staff in a fair, timely, and effective manner, as well as scheduling all company Freight personnel and jobs to ensure appropriate coverage. The role requires strategic planning to minimize overtime and ensure efficient scheduling. Additionally, the Freight Manager will be responsible for hiring and terminating Freight Personnel under the guidance of the Director of Freight, HR, and upper management. In this position, the Freight Manager will distribute and review all related company policies, procedures, forms, methodologies, standards, and qualifications to all employees in the department. Accountability related to Freight logistics will be enforced, ensuring that back-office administration procedures are followed, including filing, reporting, billing, payroll, and distribution hours. The Freight Manager will also assist the Director of Freight with conducting investigations on negative occurrences at customer locations and collaborate with HR, Safety, and upper management on necessary documentation and disciplinary actions. Furthermore, the Freight Manager will seek potential new customers and assist in preparing sales presentations to expand business opportunities. Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 15 personnel conducting continuous operations in a dynamic environment 7 days a week.
  • Oversee training and development of all staff in a fair, timely, and effective manner.
  • Schedule all company Freight personnel and jobs to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Minimize overtime and strategize schedules accordingly.
  • Hire and terminate Freight Personnel under the guidance of the Director of Freight, HR, and upper management.
  • Distribute and review company policies, procedures, forms, methodologies, standards, and qualifications to all employees in the department.
  • Ensure accountability related to Freight logistics and enforce procedures throughout the company.

Requirements

  • 5 Years of Experience with Personnel management and scheduling involving 10 or more employees.
  • 5 Years of Experience with management for a Transportation Company.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be age 24 or older to apply.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is REQUIRED or eligible to acquire one at the time of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be able to proficiently speak, read & write English.
  • Must be employment eligible based on background requirements including criminal background check, clean MVR, health/drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Maritime Transportation preferred.
  • Skills to communicate effectively with office, operations, commercial business sector, law enforcement, and employees.
  • Basic Math skills to assist with customer estimates, interpret sales forecasts, track sales, and track Payroll.
  • Experience with PC, Word, and Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Good comprehension skills and intuitive skills are necessary.
  • Familiarity with maritime security and transportation industry terminology.
  • Familiarity with safely using all freight and warehouse equipment.
