About the position

The position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Gas System Operations, Gas Production, and Gas Technical Services at Duke Energy. The role involves providing leadership, developing strategies, and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of gas facilities, including propane-air plants and gas system stations. The position requires coordination with various departments and stakeholders to meet corporate goals and regulatory requirements while managing costs effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Directs all areas associated with Gas System Operations, Gas Production, and Gas Technical Services.
  • Provides leadership in accomplishing goals and strategies for Gas Operations in support of corporate goals.
  • Develops and directs short-term and long-term strategies to accomplish goals and objectives while managing costs.
  • Ensures the safe and reliable operation of propane-air plants and related storage facilities.
  • Manages plant availability during peak demand and emergency conditions.
  • Oversees the operation of all Gas System Stations and District regulating stations, valves, and related facilities.
  • Coordinates staffing, training, development, evaluation, and counseling of personnel within Gas System Operations and Technical Services.
  • Prepares and manages the operating budget for Gas System Operations and Gas Production.
  • Prevents cost overruns and misapplied charges.
  • Ensures the safe and reliable installation, operation, and maintenance of odorization equipment and electronic instrumentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, or other Technical fields and five (5) or more years of work-related experience, or a High School Diploma/GED with ten (10) or more years of work-related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of gas transmission and distribution systems.
  • Strong orientation for safety, customer service, communication, and leadership.
  • Highly proficient in the use of information systems, including MS Access, Word, and Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong accounting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and perform in stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge of the gas industry, gas supply function, and gas measurement methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business Administration.
  • Familiarity with DOT CFR 192, CFR 195 and NFPA 59.
  • Knowledge of the Company's customer information and billing system, and corporate financial/accounting tools.
  • Familiarity with safe construction methods.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new technologies.
