About the position

Supermicro Computer's Hardware Designing team is seeking an experienced technical manager with extensive board design knowledge to lead the design and development of motherboards, which are core components of our server products. The Hardware Design Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create high-performance and cutting-edge motherboards that are fundamental to our data center products. This role requires strong leadership and mentorship skills to ensure the team excels under their guidance. The responsibilities of the Hardware Design Manager include collaborating with the Product Manager to optimize product specifications and analyze technical feasibility. The manager will be responsible for schematic capture, layout checking, BOM generation, and debugging and testing of server motherboards, add-on cards, and backplane products. They will work alongside layout engineers, validation engineers, software engineers, firmware engineers, and product engineers to identify and resolve engineering issues early in the design process, ensuring high-quality products. Additionally, the Hardware Design Manager will prepare technical documentation, including product specifications, layout instructions, and test procedures. They will ensure that products conform to engineering specifications, EMC and energy regulations, and meet customer performance expectations. The manager will also provide clear documentation and strong technical support to contract manufacturers and the production department during product sampling and production stages. Furthermore, they will support the Technical Support Team and Field Application Engineers to ensure quality throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Manager to optimize product specifications and analyze technical feasibility.
  • Responsible for schematics capture, layout checking, BOM generation, and debugging and testing of server motherboards, add-on cards, and backplane products.
  • Work with layout engineers, validation engineers, software engineers, firmware engineers, and product engineers to identify and solve engineering issues early in the design process.
  • Prepare technical documentation including product specifications, layout instructions, and test procedures.
  • Ensure products conform to engineering specifications, EMC and energy regulations, and customer performance expectations.
  • Provide clear documentation and strong technical support to contract manufacturers and production departments during product sampling and production stages.
  • Support the Technical Support Team and Field Application Engineers to ensure quality throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with 5 years of experience or Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience working with x86 server/workstation boards.
  • Deep understanding of x86 architecture.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PCB layout, debugging tools and software, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of PCB layout, OrCAD/Allegro tools, circuit design, and PCB structure.
  • Knowledge of high-speed circuit design and voltage regulator circuit design.
  • Familiarity with digital scopes and high-speed bus measurement.
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong ability to adopt and learn new notions and technologies.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment.
