About the position

The Manager, Health & Safety provides comprehensive safety and health direction and support at the Rio Grande LNG Facility in Brownsville, TX, including providing guidance and direction to management and various personnel on implementing Health & Safety Programs and promoting continuous safety improvement. This position involves support and assistance for other HSE needs throughout the company, including safety audits and inspections, record-keeping, industrial hygiene monitoring and assessments, equipment inspections, safety performance tracking and reporting, safety and health training, incident and accident investigation and tracking, and program development, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a leadership commitment to safety throughout the organization and inspire our team to pursue safety progress through life-saving rules, process safety fundamentals.
  • Cultivate a safety culture that promotes open reporting of incidents and near misses, driving continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Provide technical support to identify health and safety hazards, program needs in support of Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and recognized on-site leader, coaching site teams and employees on hazard identification and elimination.
  • Assist and lead development and review of safety and health programs.
  • Supervise HSE personnel and facilitate their development through assignments, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Review and assist in preparation of safety work plans and site-specific safety and health plans.
  • Attend operations meetings to review HSE concerns and issues.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to emergency response and other incidents.
  • Manage injury and accident reporting and follow-up.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for interpreting and implementing HSE requirements.
  • Work on an on-call duty schedule for incident reporting.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years' experience.
  • Proven experience managing HSE initiatives within large-scale, complex projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make informed decisions applying comprehensive knowledge of HSE practices and regulations.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex safety and environmental information clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of safety.
  • Proficiency in using HSE management systems and software tools.
  • Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
  • Minimal travel to be expected, mostly to the NextDecade headquarters located in Houston, Texas.
  • Time Management and effective communication skills.
  • Adaptability to manage changes in the work environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other data analysis tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certifications in relevant HSE disciplines, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), ASP, OHST, CHST, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or NEBOSH.
