About the position

As the Engineering Manager for the Data Streams Monitoring (DSM) team at Datadog, you will lead a talented group of engineers to enhance and scale the business, engineering systems, and drive value for customers monitoring Kafka and other streaming platforms. DSM allows users to monitor the end-to-end latency for their data pipelines. It is a fast-growing new product within our Data Observability group and an opportunity for a manager to take the product and team to the next level of growth by focusing on the business, critical new deals, and strategic areas of growth. You'll oversee the development of innovative features, ensure system reliability, and collaborate closely with product management. This role offers a significant opportunity for growth, allowing you to drive product evolution and mentor a high-performing team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Launch new product capabilities for application developers and cluster operators across the most used streaming platforms for the next phase of Data Streams Monitoring business growth.
  • Partner with product management to define and prioritize features that unlock value and new sales opportunities.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the Data Streams frontend and backend systems.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, momentum, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • At least 1-3 years experience as a people manager leading an engineering team of 3 or more, preferably in a customer facing product.
  • Strong understanding of Kafka, RabbitMQ, and streaming or event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Java or Go, and a willingness to spend some time with hands on keyboard, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Demonstrable experience in building and scaling distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent professional experience.
