About the position

The Streaming - Control Plane team at Datadog is seeking a hands-on technical leader to oversee the systems and abstractions responsible for streaming data between services. This role involves leading a team of engineers focused on low latency distributed streaming systems, utilizing technologies such as Java, Go, Rust, and Kafka. The position emphasizes collaboration, technical leadership, and the ability to drive high-quality work while maintaining a strong office culture in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical and architectural discussions to address challenges faced by the team and the streaming engineering community.
  • Engage with the team's code, assist in troubleshooting issues, and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Cultivate a diverse team of engineers, focusing on performance management and career development.
  • Manage relationships with product teams and major stakeholders.
  • Implement a lightweight agile process to track work and ensure timely delivery of high-quality results.
  • Define and align the team's quarterly goals with business and platform needs.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Experience in building robust platforms with services, data stores, and data streams, prioritizing high availability and performance.
  • Proven ability to architect solutions at high scale in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Significant experience in backend languages such as Go, Java, or Rust, and streaming technologies like Kafka, Flink, or Spark Structured Streaming.
  • Affinity for user experience.
