About the position

The REDAPL team at Datadog is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the Datastore Serving sub-team, which is responsible for powering resource queries across various datastores such as PostgreSQL, Cassandra, and Elasticsearch. This role is critical for driving the future of Datadog's data infrastructure, ensuring high performance and reliability, and involves strategic leadership, team oversight, and talent management as the team grows.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the vision and strategy for the team, ensuring alignment with overall goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to Engineering ICs, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Ensure the team maintains high standards of code quality, performance, and reliability across all systems and services.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement within the datastore and serving domains, promoting best practices and new technologies.
  • Lead hiring efforts to attract and retain top talent, ensuring the growth and development of team members through mentoring and professional development opportunities.
  • Work closely with other teams and stakeholders to align on priorities, address challenges, and deliver high-impact solutions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a technical people manager with strong mentorship skills.
  • Proven experience managing teams that shipped and operated business-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing, building, and operating distributed systems to solve problems at scale.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively through complex technical problems with diverse stakeholders.
  • Efficient in optimizing team workflows and processes to enhance team output and collaboration.
  • Known for balancing fast iteration, strategic ambiguity, and high-quality outcomes in a dynamic business environment.
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related scientific field or equivalent experience.
