About the position

The Manager I, Operations position at J.B. Hunt is responsible for overseeing a single site or fleet, ensuring operational success through effective management of personnel and resources. This role involves optimizing company assets, maintaining customer satisfaction, and managing various operational aspects including inventory and safety protocols. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as it may involve working different shifts to meet operational demands.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts and serve as the first point of contact with assigned customers to provide exceptional service and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Plan, organize, and execute large-scale employee appreciation events.
  • Forecast freight volumes and adjust capacity needs to ensure seamless coverage of fleet and equipment.
  • Manage inventory, warehouse upkeep, and security of the facility.
  • Communicate with customers and internal teams to resolve issues related to operations.
  • Create and communicate key performance indicators and manage employee payroll and billing processes.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to balance equipment maintenance schedules with customer requirements.
  • Conduct analysis to determine cost trends and maximize profitability, including budget assessments.
  • Monitor driver safety and promote a positive safety culture by ensuring compliance with training and regulations.
  • Select, hire, train, and develop office personnel and drivers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3-4 years of Transportation/Logistics experience or 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related fields (preferred).
  • 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in logistics or transportation (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration/Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related fields.
  • 2-3 years of experience in the Transportation/Logistics industry or military equivalent with supervisory experience.
