About the position

The Manager II, Engineering role at Confluent focuses on leading the Developer Experiences team, which is responsible for enhancing the user experience of the Confluent Cloud Platform based on Apache Kafka. This position involves collaborating with product management and stakeholders to drive the roadmap for various developer experiences, ensuring seamless adoption and operation for customers. The role emphasizes delivering high-impact user journeys and working closely with engineering teams on product definition and architectural design.

Responsibilities

• Own the overall vision for the Developer Experiences team, including enabling and operating Flink, Governance, and VScode plugin experiences.
• Work closely with product management and key stakeholders to build and drive the overall roadmap for developer experiences.
• Deliver high impact to the business by driving critical user journeys for Kafka, Flink, connector and stream governance adoption, security, identity, and architectural direction.
• Collaborate with the engineering team and product on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8+ years of software development experience with 3+ years in a management role.
• Technical expertise in large scale systems engineering or distributed systems.
• Ability to influence team members, peers, and upper management through effective communication and collaboration.
• Experience in hiring, motivating engineers, coaching/mentoring, and performance management.
• Proven track record of timely feature delivery with a sense of urgency and excellent prioritization skills.
• BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; an advanced degree is preferred.
