About the position

The Manager II, Mechanical Design Engineering position at Honda is focused on leading the Frame Interior Design & Test Development departments. The role involves translating company strategies into actionable departmental objectives, ensuring productivity and efficiency, and fostering employee development. The manager will oversee project schedules, mentor staff, and maintain effective communication within the division to achieve business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Translate higher level company and division strategies into department-level strategies and tactics.
  • Establish department vision, clear objectives, and action plans for team execution.
  • Conduct progress check-ins on department initiatives, resolving issues to ensure timely results.
  • Balance priorities and resources to meet departmental objectives.
  • Work with Group Leaders to establish project schedules for departmental functions.
  • Support Division Lead in developing processes for workforce management and inter-divisional relationships.
  • Direct assigned staff, conduct performance appraisals, and assist in succession planning.
  • Ensure resolution of associate relations issues and propose corrective actions.
  • Mentor leaders within the department.
  • Oversee completion of development evaluations and readiness for company evaluations.
  • Promote positive communication within the department and division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of related work experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering; 15+ years in manufacturing or R&D may substitute for a degree.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve results.
  • Experience establishing KPIs to track progress.
  • Strong knowledge of departmental operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Superior project management and process improvement skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, mentoring, and relationship-building skills.
  • Advanced resource management skills.
  • Superior negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Experience in automotive design and development processes.
