About the position

The Manager III, Customer/Field Service Engineer (M3) position at Applied Materials is a critical role within the semiconductor manufacturing sector, specifically focusing on wafer fab equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with customers at all levels within their district, ensuring regular visits and communication to foster trust and collaboration. In this role, the manager will oversee the performance and development of customer engineers, which includes salary planning, career development, and conducting performance appraisals. The manager will also be responsible for initiating necessary reports for business operations and serving as the primary interface with Product Divisions, including tech support, training, and reliability. Additionally, the manager will monitor the Customer Service Division (CSD) Award Program and ensure that all new engineers are paired with mentors to facilitate their growth and integration into the team. The position also entails significant responsibilities in account planning alongside the District Sales Engineer, providing support for system sales, and managing financial forecasts for the district. The manager will be accountable for cost efficiency and will be measured by the financial results achieved. Furthermore, the role includes overseeing system installations, managing the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) procedure, and ensuring the accuracy of customer engineer hours tracking. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and wafer fab equipment, with operational and service experience. They will be expected to exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies, providing direction to employees while adhering to company policies. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the role requires gaining cooperation from others and presenting technical information effectively. Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains customer relationships with all relevant individuals in the district at all times, at all levels.
  • Performs regular customer visits to ensure satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Manages, coaches, and directs all customer engineers in the district, including salary planning and performance appraisals.
  • Initiates necessary reports for the business and serves as the prime interface with Product Divisions.
  • Monitors the CSD Award Program and the mentor program for new engineers.
  • Responsible for account planning with the District Sales Engineer and providing support plans for system sales.
  • Manages financial forecasts and cost efficiency within the district, measured by financial results.
  • Oversees system installation planning, reporting, and execution, including pre-facility and start-up meetings.
  • Manages the RMA procedure and measures the effectiveness of engineers on their performance.
  • Ensures accuracy and understanding of Customer Engineer hours tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 4 - 7 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing and wafer fab equipment.
  • Solid understanding of operational and service aspects of semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Ability to analyze situations and data to make informed decisions.
  • Experience in managing teams and providing direction according to established policies.
