About the position

The Manager of Inside Sales is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the inside sales function at Core & Main. This role is crucial in ensuring that both customers and outside sales staff receive prompt and efficient service. The manager will primarily handle sales orders, requests for sales quotes, inquiries about product availability, and other sales/service-related questions via phone. A key focus of this position is to provide high-level customer service while maximizing sales and gross profit. The manager will maintain profitability through thorough report analysis, identifying trends, recognizing problems, and implementing effective solutions. Additionally, this position requires the operation of a company vehicle or personal vehicle, with such operation occurring consistently for more than 20% of the average work week. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report will be run for candidates selected for this position, and an acceptable MVR report is a requirement. In this role, the manager will review estimates, quotes, and sales orders written by the inside sales staff, observing and evaluating their work performance. The manager will provide instruction, assign duties, and administer guidelines for consistent quoting. Following up with customers to ensure satisfaction is also a critical responsibility. The manager will ensure that staff receives adequate training in computer systems, sales and operations standard operating procedures (SOPs), product knowledge, and sales techniques. They will assist staff in resolving issues related to customer service, product availability, pricing, product warranty, and product delivery. The manager will create purchase orders using line disposition and follow up on all sales orders, back orders, and special orders to ensure full shipment. Daily review of the Order Report is necessary to expedite any pending back orders. The manager will research and prepare sales orders and quotes for customers and outside sales staff according to specifications and information provided, ensuring reliable information regarding product specifications, suitability, pricing, and availability is communicated. Keeping outside sales staff informed about all business activity related to their account base is essential. The manager will also work at the sales counter to serve in-store customers, handle inquiries, and resolve problems when outside sales personnel are unavailable, contributing to add-on sales by maintaining a high level of product knowledge and attending all assigned product knowledge meetings and workshops.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment assessment(s) if applicable.
  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline.
  • Generally 7+ years experience in related field.
  • May require certification.
  • Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
