About the position

The position involves supporting the Associate General Counsel - International at United Airlines by managing various international legal matters. The role requires conducting research, preparing legal documents, and overseeing compliance with international laws and regulations. It also includes collaboration with different departments on international labor and employment issues, as well as managing outside counsel and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of international legal matters related to United and its affiliated companies.
  • Conduct research and prepare legal documents required for the company's operations in international jurisdictions.
  • Manage a large portfolio of international matters and lawsuits, ensuring compliance with international legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Explain international laws, regulations, and policies to clients, and negotiate resolutions with opposing parties.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Care department on international passenger claims and regulatory matters.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Labor Relations departments on international labor and employment matters, including securing work authorizations.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of international contracts and powers of attorney with minimal oversight.
  • Prepare and conduct trainings for clients on international legal and regulatory issues.
  • Supervise and counsel the Senior Staff Representative - International Legal Affairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of significant experience supporting international attorneys with minimal oversight.
  • Paralegal certification or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant aspects of the areas of practice within assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of case management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Applications and document management software (e.g. iManage).
  • Foreign language skills (Spanish, French, Portuguese).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
