About the position

Vallen's Manager Inventory Control is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing vendor managed inventory (VMI) operations and collaborating with key business stakeholders to ensure effective inventory management. This position requires a strategic mindset to develop and implement logistics plans, budgets, and procedures that maximize compliance while meeting customer needs within budget constraints. The Manager will provide financial reporting and reconciliation of inventories, ensuring that inventory audits and cycle counts are performed accurately and efficiently. Additionally, the role involves enforcing the driver qualification process for VMI associates and ensuring adherence to standard processes and procedures related to vending hardware and software. The Manager Inventory Control will lead a team of managers and supervisors, guiding them in performing timely VMI activities and warehouse functions across assigned geographical areas. This includes staff management responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring, coaching, and enforcing company policies and productivity standards. The role also contributes to strategic planning and goal setting for the department, developing policies and procedures that significantly impact the organization. The Manager will collaborate with the Flexible Procurement Solutions team to align VMI areas with customer expectations and Vallen standards, ensuring a symbiotic relationship with customers to minimize supply chain inefficiencies. In addition to these responsibilities, the Manager will facilitate training for VMI leaders on vending machine repair and maintenance, ensuring staff can assess and address issues effectively. The position requires a strong understanding of system dynamics, vendor managed inventory principles, and various warehousing functions. The Manager will also evaluate third-party administrators to ensure compliance with Vallen's standards and federal regulations. This role is essential in driving process improvement initiatives that contribute to the company's profitability and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to provide expertise with vendor managed inventory.
  • Manage capital expenditures related to vehicle purchases, maintenance, or leases.
  • Lead managers and supervisors in performing timely VMI activities and warehouse functions.
  • Develop and implement logistics plans, budgets, and procedures to maximize compliance.
  • Provide financial reporting and reconciliation of inventories.
  • Ensure inventory audits and cycle counts are performed and discrepancies are resolved.
  • Enforce the driver qualification process for VMI associates in assigned markets.
  • Ensure completion of preventative maintenance on vending hardware/software.
  • Interview, select, hire, coach, counsel, and discipline associates while enforcing company policies.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that impact the organization significantly.
  • Lead functional and system-related process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Flexible Procurement Solutions team to meet customer expectations.
  • Establish replenishment frequencies and schedule operations for productivity.
  • Facilitate training of VMI leaders on vending machine repair and maintenance.
  • Evaluate third-party administrators to ensure compliance with standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate's degree in Supply Chain Management or related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant VMI, warehouse, or inventory experience.
  • Knowledge of system dynamics, bullwhip effect, and vendor managed inventory principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of warehousing functions such as loading, unloading, picking, packing, and shipping.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, work orders, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong communication skills and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated use of sound judgment and good organizational skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills and ability to compile routine reports.
