The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing a team of accountants dedicated to a specific portfolio, which may include Joint Ventures (JV) and Funds. This role is crucial in ensuring that financial information is delivered accurately and in a timely manner to partners and investors. The Accounting Manager will oversee the adherence to policies and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring that the team operates efficiently and effectively. The position requires a strong focus on detail and organization, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in writing. The Accounting Manager will also participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals, fostering a collaborative work environment. In this role, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accounting and reporting of investment entities and fund vehicles that own interests in real estate properties. This includes managing the monthly close process and maintaining the general ledger. The Accounting Manager will also manage the external audit process, working closely with asset management to assist in investment fund and Joint Venture level cash management and forecasting. Additionally, the role involves processing capital calls, partner distributions, and investor account statements, as well as assisting the real estate investment team with acquisitions and dispositions, including prorations, settlement statement reviews, and post-close reconciliations. The Accounting Manager will oversee the preparation of tax schedules and manage the relationship with tax preparers to ensure the timely filing of federal and state tax returns, including the distribution of K-1s to investors. A thorough understanding of organizational documents and LLC agreements for all investment structures is essential. The role also includes managing the annual compliance process for advisor entities, ensuring that staff adhere to established policies and procedures, and creating and implementing new processes and procedures as needed. Furthermore, the Accounting Manager will manage investor relations and assist with ad-hoc investor and other requests, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
