About the position

The Manager of IT Applications at American Airlines is responsible for leading Agile software development teams to deliver high-quality platform application solutions. This role involves collaborating with business and IT leadership to align on organizational vision and priorities, ensuring effective project management and quality assurance processes, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. The manager will also mentor a diverse team, manage project schedules and budgets, and address production issues as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Business and IT leadership to determine and communicate organization vision, direction, and work priorities.
  • Ensures that sound agile project management, business analysis, and quality assurance processes are in place and practiced.
  • Creates an environment for delivery teams to be self-governing organizations accountable for their own performance and delivery commitments.
  • Exhibits a desire for continuous learning and sharing of new knowledge within the organization.
  • Removes roadblocks, cultivates relationships, and effectively communicates across the Enterprise at various levels of leadership.
  • Manages and tracks project/program schedules and budgets with controller(s), as appropriate.
  • Manages and leads adoption and migration of new and emerging technologies.
  • Leads, develops, and mentors a high performing team of individuals with a diverse range of skills and experiences.
  • Maintains an effective approach on problem solving, multi-tasking, coordinating and scheduling.
  • Leads, influences, and upholds technology standards and goals to ensure visibility and predictability.
  • Manages production issues and off-hours support, communication, and coordination, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5 years of experience participating in delivery of solutions using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies.
  • 3 years of experience leading projects or teams, either formally or informally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Airline industry experience, including business process and supporting technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • 5 years of hands-on experience with full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments.
  • 3 years of experience with object-oriented design techniques and principles.
  • 3 years of experience in DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.
