About the position

The Database Manager position at Boyd Gaming involves overseeing the Database team to ensure the stability and integrity of databases. The role includes monitoring, maintaining, and designing computerized databases, as well as developing disaster recovery plans and managing software installations. The manager will also provide guidance to the team, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with legal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Database team to ensure database stability and integrity.
  • Monitor, maintain, and design computerized databases.
  • Devise and periodically review disaster recovery plans.
  • Oversee the installation and testing of new software for database impact.
  • Upgrade databases as needed and run backup programs to prevent data loss.
  • Provide guidance on database structures and features to the team.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the database team.
  • Perform troubleshooting including problem recognition, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Conduct functional and empirical analysis related to database design and configuration.
  • Prepare reports on database scalability and capacity planning.
  • Document and maintain database disaster recovery procedures.
  • Create complex query definitions for data extraction.
  • Train colleagues on data input and extraction processes.
  • Enhance the effectiveness of database tools and services.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations regarding data.
  • Stay updated with new database technologies and analyze their integration into existing infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain all required documentation.
  • Coach and mentor team members and provide performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a comparable level of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in IT Management.
  • 4-6 years of experience designing, developing, and producing reports from a database application.
  • Working knowledge of database languages, such as MySQL.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain necessary certifications and/or licenses.
