The role of the Project Management Office (PMO) at UMC Health System is pivotal in establishing, implementing, and controlling best practices for IT project management across the organization. This position is responsible for defining and documenting all policies and processes related to project lifecycles, ensuring that projects are delivered according to plan and within budget. The IT PMO will create formal methodologies for defining key performance metrics and resource allocation, ensuring that all major IT projects adhere to the established project management methodologies and technologies defined by the organization. The Manager of the IT PMO will also be tasked with ensuring that appropriate tools and processes are in place to manage projects effectively, promoting a controlled and consistent approach to all major projects. Additionally, the manager may take on project management responsibilities for specific projects as needed. In this role, the manager will provide oversight and direction for all Project Managers within the IT department. They will communicate project management standards and techniques to all IT staff, collaborating closely with the IT Service Delivery director to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive project lifecycle methodology. This methodology will facilitate project requests, approvals, budgeting, assignments, implementations, and completions. The manager will also work to develop best practices, techniques, and tools for project planning, execution, deliverable tracking, communication, and key performance metrics. Furthermore, they will manage multiple complex, moderate to high-risk enterprise projects, ensuring that project activities and tasks are completed relative to scope, schedule, and budget. The manager will be responsible for developing detailed project plans that include objectives, phases, tasks, deliverables, resources, estimates, work schedules, and assignments. They will maintain accurate and detailed project schedules, providing regular tracking and reporting to sponsors and stakeholders. Identifying, analyzing, and managing project risks will be a critical part of the role, as will ensuring compliance with regulatory and audit requirements. The manager will also be tasked with resolving or escalating problems before they disrupt the project schedule and managing project resources realistically, considering requirements and capabilities.
