About the position

The Manager, IT Talent Operations at UCLA's Information Technology Services (ITS) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of human resources strategies and policies specifically tailored for the IT organization. This role involves providing counsel to leaders across various functions, focusing on attracting, retaining, and developing top talent, while ensuring compliance with university policies. The Manager will also spearhead employee engagement initiatives and support performance management and career development efforts, ultimately enhancing UCLA's operational culture and effectiveness in delivering IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of HR strategies and policies for the IT organization.
  • Provide counsel to IT leaders and teams on talent management and employee performance.
  • Attract, retain, and develop top talent within the IT organization.
  • Guide employee performance management and career development initiatives.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives and provide coaching to employees and managers.
  • Ensure compliance with university HR processes and procedures.
  • Model UCLA's culture and values while executing the university's vision.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in human resources, talent management, information technology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a management or leadership role in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to develop HR strategies that support the employee lifecycle from recruitment to separation.
  • Skill in aligning HR projects with overall business objectives.
  • Familiarity with HR needs of technical staff in an IT organization.
  • Strong knowledge of integrating HR functions such as Talent, Learning and Development, and Diversity Equity & Inclusion.
  • Advanced knowledge of personnel policies and applicable laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult situations effectively.
  • Highly skilled in written and verbal communication, especially with technical and non-technical leaders.
  • Advanced project management skills with experience in delivering complex projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in complex higher education environments.
  • 7+ years of experience in human resources, talent management, or IT.
  • Advanced knowledge of the university's HR information systems.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
