About the position

As a Software Manager at Medtronic, you will lead a team of engineers in the development and enhancement of the Robotic Assisted Surgery platform. This role involves managing the controls and kinematics software functional area, ensuring team growth and success, and collaborating with various departments to drive best practices in product development. You will play a crucial role in advancing surgical solutions through robotics and digital technologies, contributing to Medtronic's mission of alleviating pain and restoring health.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in designing and developing kinematic solutions for robotic manipulators and surgical instruments.
  • Represent the team to the wider software organization.
  • Partner with the R&D organization, including quality and systems teams.
  • Build sustainable processes for product development.
  • Drive best practices within the functional area.
  • Remove barriers for the team to enhance productivity.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure quality and innovation.
  • Mentor and coach team members to foster their professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Practical knowledge in leading and managing processes, projects, and tactics within the software domain.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in a specific technical or professional discipline.
  • Experience managing the full product development cycle for software, from concept through to release and maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate teams around unstructured challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of applied controls, traditional robotics, and inverse kinematics.
  • Mechanical or Robotics Engineering experience.
  • Experience with Simulink, especially in real-time control systems.
  • Knowledge of medical device development processes such as 60601, 13485, 62304.
