About the position

The Manager of the Laboratory for CPA Flow Cytometry at Norton Healthcare is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the clinical laboratory. This role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations to guarantee the completeness of documentation, quality of work, and adherence to quality control standards. The manager will be expected to learn and understand all aspects of the clinical laboratory processes for their assigned areas. A key responsibility includes maintaining appropriate inventory levels and collaborating with the Laboratory Administrative Director to enhance patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. The manager will also work towards standardizing operations across facilities, reducing costs, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency standards. Additionally, the role requires providing a safe working environment for employees and working closely with other departments to streamline processes and resolve any issues that may arise. Key accountabilities include interviewing and hiring job applicants, overseeing the training of new employees and students, performing employee appraisals, and addressing any employee issues. The manager will match personnel hours with workload to meet budgetary constraints and provide monthly communication to staff. They will manage and monitor workload, evaluate the administration of services, and ensure the competency and evaluation of laboratory personnel. Troubleshooting specimen problems and ensuring timely and accurate testing are also critical components of this role. The manager will work to meet or exceed facility, departmental, and personal quality improvement goals, review quality control, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting, and maintain reagent and supply inventory levels according to budget. Furthermore, they will monitor the setup of equipment and instruments for laboratory testing, ensure the development and approval of testing policies and procedures, and review validation studies and statistical analyses of testing. Acting as a technical resource is also a significant aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Histotechnologist (HTL), Histotechnician (HT), Cytotechnologist (CT), or Cytometrist (QCYM).
  • Master's degree with one (1) year of experience as a credentialed Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLS), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Histotechnologist (HTL), Histotechnician (HT), Cytotechnologist (CT), or Cytometrist (QCYM).
  • Completion of education requirements within the discipline for applicants who have not yet taken the credentialing exam.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) years of regulatory and compliance experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Master's degree in Medical Lab Science.
