About the position

As a Manager, Land Acquisition within Renewable Development at Invenergy, you will play a pivotal role in supervising a team of external land agents. Your primary responsibilities will include planning, controlling, and directing various real estate activities essential for renewable site development. This encompasses site location and acquisition, right-of-way negotiation, building and land acquisition and disposition, space leasing, property management, and maintenance of properties. The position is based in Chicago, and you will coordinate closely with the development lead to ensure that the land campaign aligns with the development needs of the market. In this role, you will lead land acquisition programs for Invenergy's expanding portfolio of large-scale wind, solar, and storage projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of executing successful land campaigns across diverse markets and with various types of landowners. You will work in close collaboration with the development team to ensure that the land strategy supports the overall development plan, while also managing external land consultants, legal counsel, and internal land teams to ensure efficient execution of land campaigns. Your responsibilities will also include fostering positive relationships between Invenergy Development and landowner communities, overseeing the entire process of land origination, negotiation, and closing of land agreements. You will need to resourcefully engage with landowners through various means, including cold calling, research, and in-person visits. Additionally, you will work with the legal team to establish form agreements and assess deviations from these contracts. A key aspect of your role will be to create a comprehensive onboarding and training program for land agents, as well as establishing performance standards for external land agents. You will also assist in reviewing and resolving title matters critical for project financing, and coordinate efforts among landowners, legal counsel, and other stakeholders. Conducting large landowner meetings and presentations will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead land acquisition programs for Invenergy's growing portfolio of large scale wind, solar, and storage projects
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure the land strategy aligns with and supports the overall development plan
  • Implement land acquisition campaigns in coordination with project development teams to meet project timelines and budgetary constraints
  • Manage external land consultants, legal counsel, and internal land teams for efficient execution of land campaigns
  • Ensure positive engagement and working relationships between Invenergy Development and landowner communities
  • Oversee the full spectrum of land origination, negotiation, and closing of land agreements
  • Identify ways to engage with landowners through cold calling, research, and in-person visits
  • Work with the legal team to establish form agreements and assess deviations from contracts
  • Create a land agent onboarding and training program for company-wide use
  • Establish external land agent standards for performance judgment and analysis
  • Assist with review, resolution, and reporting of title matters to support project financing
  • Coordinate efforts among landowners, legal counsel, and other key project stakeholders
  • Conduct large landowner meetings and presentations

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in renewable energy/utilities sector, land, development, or real estate sectors
  • Strong organizational, networking, leadership, time management, and accounting skills
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and solve complex problems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to travel 50%
  • Valid driver's license
  • Previous experience managing people
