About the position

The Manager, Legal Support Personnel at Norton Rose Fulbright is responsible for overseeing and managing the legal support staff in the New York Office. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth operations by coordinating assignments, managing schedules, and providing leadership to the support team. The position requires collaboration with various departments and involves monitoring performance, workload distribution, and the delivery of quality work products.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the legal support staff, including practice assistants, practice coordinators, and paralegals.
  • Support Senior Manager with national projects and initiatives related to legal support personnel.
  • Monitor utilization, billable and non-billable time, workload distribution, and delivery of quality work product.
  • Establish and maintain successful working relationships with practice leadership, attorneys, and administrative leadership.
  • Assess legal support personnel skillset and provide resources and training for development.
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and office administration for onboarding and training of legal support personnel.
  • Monitor and approve timecards, overtime, and PTO for legal support personnel under supervision.
  • Coordinate vacation requests and arrange for coverage during absences.
  • Address personnel issues in conjunction with Human Resources Manager.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Drive annual evaluation process for legal support personnel and compile feedback from attorneys.
  • Promote a culture of honesty and integrity; maintain confidentiality.
  • Stay knowledgeable of the latest trends and developments in the legal support industry.
  • Participate in ad hoc working groups for national operational initiatives.
  • Proactively identify the need for national and local operational improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a law firm.
  • Ability to work discreetly with confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and follow-through.
