About the position

The Logistics Manager will support the regional implementation of global initiatives by resourcing and networking with other departments to ensure positive outcomes in both financial and operational arenas. This role is crucial in ensuring effective, efficient, and compliant shipping execution for all shipments, both inbound and outbound, within the region. The Logistics Manager will coordinate with various departments, including customer service, sales, distribution, and trade compliance, to achieve these objectives. Additionally, the individual will manage and oversee the vendor network for all modes of transportation, aligning, leveraging, and deploying logistics strategies to improve overall serviceability, scale, and pricing for New Era Cap. The position can be based out of the global headquarters in Buffalo, NY, or the Carlisle-Harrisburg, PA area, which serves as the North American distribution center. In this role, the Logistics Manager will act as the primary point of communication between all of New Era's logistics partners for North America, including LTL, FTL, Intermodal, Air, and Ocean transport. The manager will anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with inbound and outbound deliveries, devising cost-effective and legal solutions while ensuring optimum delivery reliability to customers. This includes developing efficient flow processes and identifying strategies for process improvement and cost reduction that align with business objectives. The Logistics Manager will also participate in strategic planning, identifying both short- and long-term strategies for transportation and cost savings, and assist in lane-level sourcing strategies with providers, negotiating truckload rates to mitigate inflation and implement cost-saving projects. The role requires the creation and management of KPIs for logistics providers, focusing on budget adherence and areas for improvement. The Logistics Manager will oversee the freight billing process, ensuring that invoices match contracted rates and are paid accurately and timely. Handling shipping complaints and feedback promptly and analyzing trends for continuous improvement will also be key responsibilities. The manager will ensure that SAP routing is set up and maintained within the distribution network and will lead the logistics team, providing training and development opportunities. Additionally, the Logistics Manager will support Hot Market activities related to major sporting events that require quick turnaround and urgent resolutions, while maintaining confidentiality on sensitive matters and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the relationships and act as the primary point for communication between all of New Era's logistic partners for NA (LTL, FTL, Intermodal, Air and Ocean, and the company (New Era Cap)
  • Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with inbound/outbound deliveries and devise cost-effective and legal solutions; implement these solutions
  • Ensure optimum delivery reliability to the customer by developing efficient and effective flow processes and identifying process improvement and cost reduction strategies
  • Participate in strategic planning by identifying short- and long-term strategies for transportation and cost savings
  • Assist in the lane level sourcing strategy with all providers and negotiate truckload rates with common carriers to mitigate inflation and implement cost-saving projects
  • Ensure vendor execution against transportation requirements, meeting customer requirements
  • Create and manage KPIs for logistic providers with a focus on budget adherence and areas of improvement
  • Manage the freight billing process and ensure that freight invoices match contracted rates and are paid accurately and timely
  • Handle shipping complaints and feedback quickly and to the satisfaction of the customer; analyze complaints for trends and discuss findings with leadership
  • Ensure SAP routing is set up and maintained within the distribution network
  • Manage the logistics team (Logistics Coordinators) to execute logistics strategy and provide training and development
  • Counsel, consult, communicate, instruct, and monitor direct-reporting employees in acceptable practices and company policies
  • Support Hot Market activities related to major sporting events that require quick turnaround and urgent resolutions
  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics or similar field required; experience in lieu of degree may be considered
  • 5-7 years progressive experience in transportation, logistics or supply chain management, with at least 3 years of people management experience
  • Customer Service or Operations management experience is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Experience with the use of TMS and WMS systems
  • Ability to execute in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment
  • Exercise sound independent judgment
  • Knowledge of multimodal solutions
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Strong follow-up with attention to detail
  • APICs certification is a plus

  • Experience in customer service or operations management
