The Manager of Logistics will oversee a specialized support system aimed at enhancing the logistics platform through effective organization, monitoring, and analysis of data to improve operational efficiency and performance. This role is crucial in ensuring that logistics operations align with the company's strategic objectives and vision. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in logistics, with 3-5 years of progressive experience in sales, customer care, operations, or related fields. Additionally, 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role is required, where the candidate has set expectations, measured performance, and provided coaching and development. Experience in a transportation-related or distribution environment is advantageous, as is familiarity with freight and traffic information systems. A hands-on understanding of MRP systems, particularly Oracle, is preferred. In this role, the Manager of Logistics will provide exception management support to the logistics organization and internal clients, driving corrective action plans to minimize delivery exceptions. The candidate will be responsible for planning and controlling specialized program shipments, developing monitoring systems for inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with key performance metrics. The position also involves collaboration with logistics field operations to identify operational improvements using LEAN and Six Sigma principles. The Manager will lead regular discussions with the Corporate Sales Team regarding network service issues and oversee the review and approval process for QMAPS. This position includes supervisory responsibilities for the salaried Control Tower team members, ensuring that all logistics operations meet company expectations and quality objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exception management support to the logistics organization, internal clients, and outsourced service providers.
  • Drive corrective action plans to reduce delivery exceptions in support of operational excellence.
  • Plan and control specialized program shipments to ensure company expectations are met.
  • Develop early detection monitoring systems to proactively manage finished goods inventory levels, returns compliance, and key performance metrics.
  • Actively participate in regular department leadership conversations to align with strategic objectives and vision.
  • Align with logistics field operations to create synergies and identify operational improvements through LEAN and Six Sigma principles.
  • Ensure that scorecard metrics are maintained (Carrier Health Matrix, Returns, Builder).
  • Support the Quality Objectives of the Final Mile Team.
  • Lead regular dialog with the Corporate Sales Team on network service issues.
  • Oversee the review and approval process for QMAPS.
  • Ensure the maintenance of carrier profiles, delivery territories, and other system data in support of business changes.
  • Lead and participate on cross-functional teams as directed by the Director, Final Mile Services.
  • Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in sales, customer care, operations, or other logistics related positions.
  • 1-2 years of experience leading people, including setting expectations, measuring performance, coaching, and development.
  • Experience in a transportation-related or distribution environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with assorted freight/traffic information and billing systems.
  • Hands-on experience and understanding of MRP systems, preferably Oracle.
  • Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Highly detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build business relationships and work effectively with all levels of employees within AWC, the customer's organization, and outside vendors and suppliers.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Logistics, or a related field; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of education.
