About the position

The Manager of Marine Operations at Port Liberty Bayonne is responsible for overseeing safe and efficient vessel operations. This role involves managing the ILA workforce, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining communication with customers and internal teams regarding vessel logistics. The position requires a strong understanding of terminal operations and the ability to troubleshoot and manage various operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct involvement in the management of the ILA workforce, including work practices, productivity, and discipline.
  • Minimize operating costs by eliminating redundancies and refining processes.
  • Work with Vessel Control to set up Sparcs for vessels according to pre-vessel checklists.
  • Verify that all ROS labor is on time and logged into necessary systems for cranes.
  • Ensure crane work lists match planned gang splits.
  • Monitor operations to ensure discharge containers receive OCR reads and are dispatched to shuttles.
  • Oversee checkers to ensure proper direction of shuttle trucks when needed.
  • Monitor Sparcs to ensure accurate RMG inventory and active transfer queue.
  • Identify potential problems in upcoming bays and create contingency plans.
  • Complete vessel operations according to the vessel completion checklist.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal workforce regarding vessel planning and logistics.
  • Ensure terminal systems accurately reflect all equipment and cargo related to vessel operations.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate Vessel Performance Reports.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Administration, Transportation, Operations Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of management experience with related union labor.
  • Thorough knowledge of terminal operations principles.
  • Experience with computerized operating systems.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
  • Understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
