About the position

The Manager of Marketing and Media Relations is responsible for overseeing and directing the marketing, community engagement, and media relations functions within the organization. This role involves managing a team of staff members, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring adherence to the organization's diversity initiatives. The manager will provide training, guidance, and direction to staff, ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle their responsibilities and that they receive timely in-service training on relevant policies and procedures. Additionally, the manager will oversee contractors and staff managing various departmental contracts, including those related to transportation demand management, advertising, public relations, and community engagement. In this position, the manager will handle media inquiries, prepare talking points, and provide interview guidance to staff. They will work closely with the CEO, executive team, and Board of Commissioners on RTC-related matters, including scheduling meetings, providing presentations, and developing relationships with community partners. The manager will also be responsible for developing and communicating strategies for managing public relations situations, administering programs, and managing projects from inception to completion. This includes overseeing media event plans, preparing printed materials, and implementing media relations campaigns for RTC programs. The manager will develop strategic communication plans, recommend methods for achieving goals, and implement these plans effectively. They will represent the RTC in meetings with community groups and media, answer queries, and provide information as needed. The role also involves overseeing community engagement efforts, managing the agency's diversity consultant, and developing strategies for outreach and engagement activities. The manager will oversee traditional marketing, social media, and digital marketing efforts, ensuring that all campaigns are strategically planned and executed. Safety responsibilities are also a key aspect of this role, ensuring that all staff are trained on safety procedures and held accountable for compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct the work of the marketing, community engagement, and media relations functions.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of assigned department staff, conducting performance evaluations and developing staff.
  • Oversee contractors and staff managing departmental contracts, including transportation demand management and advertising programs.
  • Develop, manage, and administer the departmental budget for assigned areas.
  • Handle media inquiries, prepare talking points, and provide interview guidance to staff.
  • Coordinate with the CEO, executive team, and Board of Commissioners on RTC-related matters.
  • Develop and communicate agency strategy for managing public relations situations.
  • Administer programs and manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Manage agency media event plans and oversee the preparation of printed materials.
  • Plan, develop, and implement media relations campaigns for RTC programs.
  • Develop strategic communication plans and recommend methods for achieving goals.
  • Represent the RTC in meetings with community groups and media, providing information and assistance as required.

  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and protocols.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in public administration, communications, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of full-time professional public relations/public affairs experience, with four (4) years in a supervisory role, preferably in the last twenty-four (24) months.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
