About the position

The Manager of Mechanical Design Engineering at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the controls related activities within the manufacturing environment. This role involves troubleshooting and programming robotic applications, conveyor systems, and monitoring equipment, while collaborating with maintenance teams to enhance equipment reliability and performance. The position emphasizes continuous process optimization and the implementation of advanced technologies to improve quality and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and program robot applications, conveyor systems, and process monitoring systems.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to fix and improve equipment failures.
  • Lead and assist production in all controls-related topics and issues.
  • Support the maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures.
  • Implement and manage continuous process optimization to improve quality and reduce waste.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all electrical equipment and associated procedures.
  • Design, select, manage, program, and commission automation equipment to enhance existing systems.
  • Identify weak areas in production systems using root cause analysis and implement effective countermeasures.
  • Implement and maintain quality control methods including pokeyokes and data tracking systems.
  • Optimize and improve HMI, SCADA systems, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) interfaces.
  • Create and improve equipment safety standards and implement periodic checks and inspections.
  • Manage the network and hardware IT infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and 7 years of experience in controls engineering.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree or equivalent in the same fields with 5 years of experience in controls engineering.
  • Experience in hardware, software, or instrument selection for controls engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting control system hardware and instrumentation.
  • Experience with Siemens PCS7 software.
  • High performance HMI implementation experience.
  • Knowledge of ISA 18.2 Alarm rationalization.
  • PLC Programming experience on Rockwell or Siemens.
  • Programming skills in Java or Python.
  • Experience with Ignition or Wonderware HMI programming.
