About the position

The Manager of Medical Staff Administration at UC San Diego Health plays a crucial role in overseeing the credentialing functions essential for maintaining the integrity and compliance of medical staff operations. Reporting directly to the Director, this position is responsible for managing the medical staff administration team, which includes recruiting, hiring, orienting, training, and, when necessary, disciplining or terminating credentialing staff. The manager is tasked with ensuring that the credentialing and privileging processes are efficient and compliant with external regulatory standards. This involves monitoring productivity, launching improvement initiatives, and sustaining results for both UC San Diego Health and UC San Diego Medical Group credentialing operations. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the manager collaborates closely with various committees and leadership roles within the organization. This includes providing functional expertise to the Chairs of the Credentials Committee, Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IPC), Physicians' Wellbeing Committee (PWBC), Medical Staff Professionalism Committee (MSPC), Chief Medical Officers, and Department Chairs. The role requires a high level of discretion and confidentiality, as it involves handling sensitive matters related to privileges and credentialing. The manager must also ensure that all processes align with best practices in credentialing and comply with external regulations, thereby safeguarding the quality of care provided by the medical staff. Overall, this position is pivotal in fostering a culture of excellence in medical staff administration, ensuring that all credentialing activities are conducted with the utmost professionalism and adherence to regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the medical staff administration team, including recruiting, hiring, orienting, training, and disciplining staff.
  • Monitor productivity of credentialing and privileging processes.
  • Launch and sponsor improvement initiatives for credentialing operations.
  • Maintain compliance with external regulatory agencies regarding credentialing.
  • Collaborate with various committees and leadership on credentialing and privileging matters.
  • Provide functional expertise and knowledge to medical staff leadership and committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related area, or equivalent experience/training.
  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience in medical staff administration or credentialing.
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) certification.
  • Experience with external regulations and credentialing best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to influence effectively at all levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM).
  • Experience with MSOW credentialing and privileging software.
