About the position

Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is seeking a Manager, Medical Communications to be based in Horsham, PA. This role is pivotal within the Medical Affairs Oncology therapeutic franchise, focusing on the development and communication of scientific and clinical information. The Manager will be responsible for leading the creation of both reactive and proactive materials for medical science liaisons (MSLs), medical directors, and training partners. This includes preparing educational and scientific materials such as congress presentations and slide decks that effectively communicate evidence from clinical studies. The position requires collaboration with various partners to ensure alignment on strategic direction and timely execution of communication materials. In this role, you will lead assigned medical communications projects, facilitating the achievement of both short- and long-term objectives for Janssen Medical Affairs. You will strategically partner with project teams to manage and understand scientific support needs, critically analyze relevant documents and studies, and develop compliant communication tools for healthcare providers (HCPs). Additionally, you will oversee the project management of communication materials, ensuring that timelines and progress are tracked effectively. Familiarity with the Veeva system (iMK, iMR) for the review and storage of materials is essential. The Manager will also be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships with cross-functional business partners to understand their needs and identify how medical communications can support those needs. This includes managing external partners and vendors as necessary, maintaining trackers of scientific and medical content, and developing digital tools to enhance the oncology portfolio. Other duties may be assigned as departmental needs arise, making this a dynamic and integral role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned medical communications projects to achieve short- and long-term objectives for Janssen Medical Affairs.
  • Strategically partner with project teams to manage and understand scientific support needs.
  • Collect and critically analyze pertinent Janssen and external documents and studies to develop compliant communication tools for healthcare providers (HCPs).
  • Prepare educational and scientific materials such as congress presentations and slide decks to communicate evidence from clinical studies.
  • Collaborate closely with the Medical Review Committee (MRC) and Copy Approval Committee (CAC) to obtain approval for communications for MSLs.
  • Manage project timelines and progress for communication materials, including MSL proactive and reactive slide decks.
  • Utilize the Veeva system (iMK, iMR) for review and storage of all materials.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional business partners to understand business needs.
  • Manage external partners (vendors) as needed.
  • Maintain and update trackers of scientific and medical content.
  • Develop digital tools to support the oncology portfolio.
  • Perform other duties as requested and as departmental needs emerge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) preferred.
  • Experience in medical communications or related field, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong understanding of oncology and clinical research.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in using Veeva system (iMK, iMR) for material review and storage.
  • Strong analytical skills to critically assess scientific documents and studies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
