About the position

The Manager, Network Engineering, Wireless will lead a team of wireless engineers responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of the university's wireless network infrastructure. This role is crucial for ensuring high-performance and secure wireless connectivity across the campus, aligning with university-wide networking strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices. The Manager will also oversee complex technical issue resolution, provide mentorship, and facilitate collaboration with other teams, ultimately supporting UCSF's academic, medical, and research missions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of wireless engineers.
  • Design, implement, optimize, and maintain the university's wireless network infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement strategies for wireless network improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Network Services to align with university-wide networking strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices and university policies.
  • Oversee the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Provide mentorship and training to the team.
  • Facilitate collaboration with other ITS teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or related fields.
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in network services, information technology, or network operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including persuasion, negotiation, and mentorship.
  • Experience in providing inclusive leadership and cultivating an inclusive environment.
  • Significant experience in designing and supporting large-scale network environments.
  • Advanced understanding of wireless technologies and network systems (e.g., Cisco, Aruba).
  • Proficiency in using wireless analysis and troubleshooting tools.
  • Advanced project management skills and experience in managing network projects efficiently.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in a management or leadership role in a service-oriented environment.
  • Experience in complex higher education environments.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certifications.
  • Aruba Certifications or Cisco Meraki certifications.
  • ITIL or Project Management certification (e.g., PMP).
