About the position

Yale University is seeking a dynamic and collaborative manager to lead the Monographic Acquisitions and Cataloging (non-Latin Script) Unit. This role is crucial for developing and maintaining workflows and best practices for acquiring and cataloging resources in non-Latin script languages. The successful candidate will manage a team of librarians and assistants, fostering communication and professional development while collaborating with other departments to enhance access to non-Latin script materials. This position offers an opportunity to engage in strategic planning and contribute to the library's commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and sets annual goals for clerical & technical staff and managerial and professional staff within the Monographic Acquisitions and Cataloging (non-Latin Script) Unit.
  • Provides assistance and expertise for acquiring and cataloging primarily print and other physical formats throughout the library.
  • Develops best practices, policies, and procedures for managing and ensuring accountability for accessioning of print and other physical formats in collaboration with stakeholders and the Director of Monographic Processing Services.
  • Manages process and workflow changes based on organizational and departmental needs.
  • Makes recommendations for staffing and level of expertise needed for receiving and cataloging units.
  • Serves as one of the library's main points of contact regarding cataloging needs and assessment.
  • Plays an active role in projects and initiatives with technical services components as assigned.
  • Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to encourage innovation and ensure excellence of the Library.
  • May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program for library and information science.
  • Two years of professional experience, accomplishments, and demonstrated supervisory experience, including training and staff development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bibliographic standards, such as RDA and MARC, metadata, databases, and library acquisitions processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to manage complex collections budgets and assess operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical services processes to non-specialist audiences.
  • Reading and writing knowledge of a non-Latin script language.
  • Experience managing library technical services operations, familiarity with linked data concepts and/or applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with search and discovery, user experience, and/or assessment for materials in non-Latin script languages.
  • Demonstrated record of leading interdepartmental projects and bringing them to a successful conclusion in a timely fashion.
