About the position

The Manager of Accounting and General Finance at Stanford University's School of Medicine will oversee various accounting functions, ensuring compliance with university policies and effective use of resources. This role involves supervising staff, analyzing financial data, and contributing to strategic initiatives within the Pathology Department. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze accounting transactions and summarize current financial positions.
  • Capture, track, and report revenue and expenses; oversee account reconciliations.
  • Collect data and perform research on transactions; prepare financial performance reports.
  • Maintain and review accounting process controls; recommend modifications.
  • Run and analyze financial reports from multiple systems; prepare management information reports.
  • Execute internal control programs and manage compliance for the area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to unit strategy and assist in change management plans.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource to local units and other departments for accounting-related issues.
  • Train, coach, and review the work of other staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus four years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • 2 years of supervision experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a Stanford or academic institution.
  • Certified Accountant or Auditor, MBA, project management certification, or similar credential.
