About the position

The Manager of Accounting / Site Controller position at OTT HydroMet, a Veralto company, is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing and production costing analysis and inventory management. This position requires a thorough comparison of standard costs to actual costs, identifying and explaining variances by customer, part number, and production jobs. The cost accountant will collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve discrepancies and adjust Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings as necessary. As part of the Hydro and Meteorology business unit located in Sterling, Virginia, this role is essential for providing financial and accounting support to executives and department heads who set organizational goals and budgets. Given the complexity of manufacturing processes, a deep understanding of these processes is crucial for efficient and accurate cost analysis. The Manager of Accounting / Site Controller will follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements, identify and quantify cost factors in production, and develop and maintain a robust cost accounting system. In addition to compiling documentation on standard and production costs, the role involves determining the costs and efficiency of purchasing activities, preparing monthly gross margin analyses, and maintaining accurate records of purchased materials. The position also requires assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes, performing account reconciliations, and analyzing inventory reserves. The Manager will partner with the inventory and operations team on physical inventory counts and recommend process changes to reduce costs and maximize profits. This role is integral to managing the company's balance sheet and accounting books, presenting financial information across teams, and preparing financial reports and ad hoc analyses as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements
  • Identify and quantify cost factors in the production or execution of a product or service
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records
  • Compile documentation on standard costs and company production costs
  • Determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities
  • Collect and compile purchasing data for analysis
  • Prepare, analyze and report monthly gross margin analysis by customer, part number and production job
  • Maintain accurate records and update existing and new purchased materials and goods
  • Track cost of goods sold and calculate overhead costs
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing by analyzing inventory and preparing supplemental reports as needed
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Analyze, prepare, and record inventory reserves
  • Partner with inventory/operations team on physical inventory count, E&O analysis, disposal of inventory, etc.
  • Recommend changes to the company's processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit
  • Manage the company's balance sheet and accounting books
  • Work across teams to present and translate important financial information
  • Preparation of financial reporting and ad hoc analysis and act as a backup within the team as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business
  • CPA or CMA highly preferred
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
  • Minimum 5 years of previous accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
